The revised Mazda3 range features a six-strong model line-up of petrol and diesel models with emissions and combined economy from just 115g/km and up to 65.7mpg. Priced from £15,995 for the petrol-powered 1.6-litre MZR Tamura, to £20,995 for the 2.2-litre diesel-powered MZR-CD Sport Nav, the Mazda3 line-up combines generous levels of equipment with fleet-friendly emission and economy levels, and engaging driving dynamics.

Two former special edition models – the popular Tamura and Venture models – now have joined the standard line-up, offering extremely generous specification and equipment at great value prices. Corporate drivers will appreciate the parsimony of the 1.6-litre MZR petrol Tamura and Venture models, which benefit from a 1.4 percent improvement in fuel economy and a 2 percent drop in emissions resulting in reduced BIK taxes.

The six-strong Mazda3 range now starts with three generously equipped ‘Tamura’ models priced from £15,995 to £17,495 (OTR). Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, sports styling kit, front fog lights, electric front and rear windows, six-speaker audio system, dual-zone climate control air-conditioning, front, side and curtain airbags and a Thatcham Category 1 alarm.

These ‘Tamura’ models are joined by a pair of ‘Venture’ models, available with 1.6-litre MZR petrol or 1.6D diesel engines and priced from £17,495 and £18,995 (OTR) respectively, featuring additional kit such as rear parking sensors, Bright finish alloy wheels, privacy glass, 5.8-inch TomTom navigation system with integrated Bluetooth®, automatic lights and wipers, cruise control, Black Mica door mirror housings, a new sporty black cloth seat trim with red stitching plus heated front sports seats. A new metallic paint - Zeal Red Mica – joins the range of eight available colours (a £500 option).

The Mazda3 range is topped by the 185ps 2.2-litre MZR-CD diesel powered ‘Sport Nav’ model, priced at £20,995. This offers a remarkable combination of performance and fuel economy – 0-to-62mph in just 8.2 seconds and a combined cycle of up to 52.3mpg. Stand-out additions to this model include LED rear lights, Black Mica door mirror housings, Bright finish alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, a heated front windscreen and a new dynamic black cloth seat trim with red stitching.

The Mazda3 range is powered by Mazda's family of responsive petrol and diesel engines – the 105ps 1.6-litre MZR and 115ps 1.6-litre turbo-diesel powerplants and the 2.2-litre MZR-CD with an output of 185ps.

The Mazda3 is easily distinguishable by its bold front-end design, sculpted rear bumper and its twist-spoke alloy wheels. The overall dimensions of the Mazda3 are carried over from the previous standard model - length 4460mm overall, width 1755mm, height 1470mm and wheelbase 2640mm - with the rear overhang on Sport models reduced by 30mm to aid loading and unloading.

Inside, the cabin is marked out by a centre console that wraps around the driver, white graphics for the Multi-Information Display and dynamic high-visibility back-lit illumination for the sporty looking dials. High levels of sound dampening materials have also resulted in a cabin that's markedly quiet and refined.

The head-turning front and rear styling not only looks superb but also plays a key dynamic role. Helped by an increase in the car's undercover floor area and more rigid front tyre air deflectors, the Mazda3 posts a wind-cheating drag co-efficient of just Cd 0.29, down from Cd 0.30.

This high degree of aerodynamic efficiency, along with a longer-legged top gear has boosted fuel economy and lowered emissions. The result is up to 65.7mpg on the combined cycle and CO₂ from just 115g/km. The new gear-shift indicator on all manual-transmission models also assists the driver in further improving fuel economy.

The chassis of the Mazda3 has also undergone a significant overhaul. All models – bar those powered by the 2.2-litre MZR-CD diesel powerplant – benefit from a reinforced front crossmember that's joined to the chassis with a higher number of spot welds. A single, stronger and more rigid strut mounted centrally in the chassis replaces the previous twin-strut layout, further boosting overall chassis rigidity.

To take full advantage of this increased chassis integrity, the MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension of the Mazda3 is fitted with dampers, optimised to reign in unwanted body movement and deliver a markedly more compliant ride quality. The electro-hydraulic power-assisted steering also features a recalibrated pump for enhanced low speed manoeuvrability and improved feedback at higher speeds.

“Mazda3 was already a great car and the changes to the three enhanced Venture and Sport Nav models bring extra style. With additional equipment, zero deposit and 0% APR finance, these Mazda3 models will have added appeal to consumers visiting our dealers’ showrooms,” comments Peter Allibon, Sales Director, Mazda UK.

“Made exclusively in Japan, the Mazda3 five-door hatchback was Mazda’s best-selling model worldwide in 2012 and the second-best selling model in the UK, after the compact Mazda2. The Mazda3 1.6-litre diesel has been hugely popular and the 2.2-litre diesel with 185ps delivers an amazing combination of high performance and low fuel consumption. It is still one of the highest power C-segment diesel models of any brand available in Britain,” adds Allibon.

“We’re confident our excellent mix of models and attractive finance packages will continue to attract a growing number of consumers to our brand," concludes Allibon.

Until the end of 2013, Mazda is offering a great combination of deals on its upgraded Mazda3 models.
