Seats
Seats are an important part of Mazda’s human centric approach to delivering the sense of oneness between car and driver that lies at the heart of Mazda’s ‘Drive Together’ ethos. The standard MX-5 seat not only delivers superb support and a classic ‘at one with the car’ sports car driving position, it also uses a light net structure that reduces the amount of vibration transmitted to the occupant by 35 per cent. The current generation MX-5 continues to feature the 30mm of telescopic wheel adjustment and smoother seat sliding operation.
Mazda Connect
The Mazda Connect in-car connectivity system is standard across the range. Accessed via the 7-inch colour touch-screen display and Multimedia Commander, the MX-5 features DAB radio and supports auxiliary (AUX) and USB inputs as standard. The MX-5 range also features wireless Apple CarPlay® as standard and supports a wired connection for Android Auto™.
Premium Bose® Sound System
Mazda and Bose®have teamed up to develop a premium sound system tailored to the MX-5 for an outstanding listening experience even with the roof down. Standard on Exclusive-Line models the system includes nine high-performance speakers including UltraNearfieldTM speakers in each headrest, plus a 13-cm woofer in a bass enclosure in the footwell and a digital amplifier below the soft-top storage. The UltraNearfieldTM speakers create a sound that’s perceived much wider than the actual distance between speakers so that music seems to extend beyond the confines of the cabin, roof up or down
Storage
To realise a lightweight, compact and driver-focused cabin, storage areas were cleverly designed to deliver the necessary day-to-day practicality without compromising the sporty ergonomics and style of the cabin. The front console box at the base of the central stack is designed to accommodate mobile phones and a hub integrated into the box includes USB and SD card slots for digital device connection. Positioned between the seats is a lockable centre box that offers secure storage if the car is left unattended roof down. The last generation MX-5 featured a manual fuel flap release lever in the rear console, now the flap unlocks automatically with doors. When diving with the roof up the space where the top would be stored can be used as an extra luggage area. The Mazda MX-5 Roadster features a pair of removable cup holders, either of which can attach to the front of the console by the passengers leg or one of the two positions between the seats.
Refinement
At the same time as ensuring the Mazda MX-5 delivers unadulterated driving pleasure, Mazda’s engineers have worked hard to ensure this fun factor doesn’t come at the expense of comfort. With a 30 per cent reduction in low-frequency road noise entering the cabin compared to the third-generation car and extensive efforts to reduce wind noise, the latest MX-5 continues to remain the most refined yet. An example of this focus is the addition of a ‘partial open-close system’ that automatically raises and lowers the side windows by 6mm when the doors are opened or closed thereby allowing for a tighter seal to the roof when driving. The roof itself benefits from extra sound insulation and delivers a noise reduction of approximately 40 per cent over previous generation MX-5s.
