Colours and options
The 2024 Mazda MX-5 is available in a choice of seven colours – Artic White, Deep Crystal Blue, Jet Black^, Machine Grey, Zircon Sand, Soul Red Crystal and the new Aero Grey colour that debuted on the Mazda2. MX-5 Roadster models are matched with a Black cloth soft-top roof, while RF models feature a body-coloured power retractable hardtop on Prime-Line and Exclusive-Line, with a two-tone black roof on Homura grade. (^Homura grade RF models not available in Jet Black)
2024 Mazda MX-5 Range
The 2024 Mazda MX-5 has a range of eight models using Mazda’s now familiar trim structure of Prime-Line, Exclusive-Line and Homura. New for 2024, the range-topping Homura features Recaro sports seats trimmed in Alcantara and leather, while as before red Brembo brake callipers and BBS alloy wheels mark out this range topping model.
Proportions
Shorter, lower and wider than the Mk3 MX-5, with the smallest overhangs and lowest centre of gravity yet, the current generation Mazda MX-5 is the most compact MX-5 ever produced. With a low driver’s seat and position in the cabin, visibility is excellent across the long tapering bonnet. With the A-Pillars swept back and the side panels free from any unnecessary lines, the pure and simple roadster proportions of the MX-5 are clear to see. Aside from a 5mm increase in overall height the Mazda MX-5 RF retains the same balanced proportions of the Roadster.
RF Boot and Roof
The MX-5 RF’s unique three-piece fully automated roof is operated at the touch of a button and is one of the fastest retractable hardtops on the market – opening or closing in just 13 seconds even when moving at speeds up to 6mph. The front and middle sections disappear along with the rear window glass while the fastback buttresses return to their external position to deliver a unique roof down style profile and look. To reduce weight the roof is made of three different materials – aluminium for the front section, steel for the middle and sheet moulding compound (SMC) plastic for the rear unit. The black garnish trims that extend the door window lines into the buttresses are made of bioengineered plastic and do not require painting. Plus, thanks to its exceptionally clever roof mechanism the Mazda MX-5 RF’s 127-litre boot ensures there is no luggage space compromise compared to the Roadster.
Roadster Boot and Roof
Effortless to fold, the Mazda MX-5’s fabric hood is a triumph of simplicity and style. In line with Mazda’s ‘gram-strategy’ the cloth hood of the latest car is 3kg lighter than the third-generation car. Even better, while closing the top of the previous model required a maximum of 90Nm of force, the latest MX-5’s hood requires just 50Nm of force – meaning it’s even easier to reach behind you and close the roof with one-hand. The MX-5 has a 130-litre boot that has been designed for improved usability – while the third-generation car could only carry one airline sized carry-on suitcase, with a 35mm longer and 36mm deeper boot, the 2024 MX-5 can carry two. Plus, unlike the previous generation, there’s also an external boot release button.
