Connectivity
& HMI

The first model to adopt Mazda’s next-generation electrical and electronic architecture – Mazda E/E Architecture+ (EEA+). The in-car experience of the all-new Mazda CX-5 has been reimagined around connectivity and safety, with technology designed to simplify, support and enhance both the driver and passenger experience with seamless integration and intuitive operation.

This advanced platform brings together electronic control units, software layers, communication networks and external servers into a unified system, enabling faster processing, improved connectivity and future ready digital functions. EEA+ forms the basis of the CX-5’s reimagined human machine interface (HMI) and over-the-air (OTA) update capability, plus it lays the groundwork for Mazda’s future software defined vehicles.

Enabled by this new architecture, Mazda carefully re-evaluated how drivers naturally interact with in-car systems in everyday use. As voice and touch controls have become more intuitive and familiar across daily digital life, the all-new CX-5’s cockpit was designed to consolidate key operations into the steering wheel and central touchscreen with reduced operational complexity.

The central touchscreen serves as a hub for infotainment and connectivity – 15.6 inches on Homura and 12.9 inches on all other grades, functionality is identical across all models with its operation designed with safety and convenience in mind. The intuitive process has smartphone like usability and a customable home screen with quick access to frequently used features. Users can select up to five widgets, such as media controls, Google Maps, vehicle data or date to match their preferences.

To further reduce distractions while driving, voice recognition has been improved for more accurate and safer control of key features like climate, audio and navigation. Combining layout and functionality within the touchscreen helps maintain driver focus and provides easy access for the passengers to access the functionality.

Another example of the all-new CX-5’s technology advancement is the fact that it’s the first Mazda to feature Google built-in to support a more connected and personalised driving experience. Almost acting like a personal in-car concierge its core components include several functions to make day-to-day life with the car easier. Google Assistant enables hands-free control of key vehicle and infotainment functions. “Hey Google” can be activated or deactivated according to driver preference, with voice control also accessible via the steering wheel switch. This allows hands free voice activation of many car systems even including changes to air conditioning and heating functions.

With Google Maps as the in-car navigation solution, the all-new Mazda CX-5 has world-class mapping and functionality. It delivers real-time traffic updates, route adjustments and personalised suggestions, plus when signed into a Google account, previously searched items from a mobile device can be synced instantly. Additionally, Google Play facilitates access to dozens of in-vehicle compatible apps, plus scope for creating an experience that feels like an extension of everyday digital life.

At a later stage the all-new Mazda CX-5 will also benefit from Google Gemini via software update and introduction in later production cars. Once introduced this AI-powered interaction tool will allow drivers to speak naturally, ask complex questions and continue follow-up conversations without specific commands, delivering an even more seamless integration with navigation.

In addition to the central touchscreen, the all-new Mazda CX-5’s 10.25-inch instrument cluster also plays a key part in the driver’s interaction with the car giving clear and customisable access to important vehicle information including speed, ADAS status, navigation cues and media playback. While to further support focused driving, from Centre-Line a head-up display is standard.

Across all models the all-new CX-5’s steering wheel features capacitive switches for operations like Mi-Drive mode selection, media controls or the camera button for quickly checking the cars surroundings in tight spaces. In addition to touch-sensitive slide gestures – for example when adjusting volume – the switches also retain a familiar rocker-style operation.

Combining the functionality of voice control, haptic steering wheel buttons and the central touchscreen the all-new Mazda CX-5 provides intuitive driver connection, while key functions like door mirror adjustment, lights and wipers remain with traditional buttons and stalks.

Owners of the all-new Mazda CX-5 can also extend connectivity beyond the cabin with the MyMazda App, which on the latest CX-5, allows features such as remote door locking, vehicle location status, access to serving history and owner’s manuals, plus over-the-air updates and alerts.
