A practical, well-built and easy to live with cabin has been a key selling point across both generations of Mazda CX-5 and now the all-new Mazda CX-5 takes this to a new level with a cabin that is more spacious, more modern and packed with more technology than ever before.
Developed under the principles of ‘Ma’ – a key pillar of Japanese aesthetics that focuses on the balance and harmony of spaces. The result is an uncluttered cabin that is composed and functional, allowing driver focus and passenger comfort in equal measure.
With a wheelbase that has been extended by 115mm compared to the previous generation, rear passenger space and accessibility are noticeably improved with 64mm more knee room and 29mm extra headroom. With a rear door opening that’s expanded by 70mm and a lower hip point of entry, child seats can be accommodated more easily, while these ease of ingress design elements along with a wider scuff plate make getting in and out easier for all occupants.
The all-new CX-5’s increased size – 115mm longer, 15mm wider and 30mm higher than the outgoing car - also enhances cargo usability by increasing load floor length by approximately 45mm – 94mm with the rear seats folded. The 583-litre overall boot volume is 61 litres bigger than the outgoing car, while the 2,019-litre rear seats folded volume is a 381-litre increase over the second-generation car. Over and above the pure volume increases, the flexibility of the boot is improved by 30mm of additional cargo height and a boot load lip that’s 18mm lower, while a new 40:20:40 split rear bench allows for versatile combinations of luggage and passengers.
From the driver’s seat, a commanding seating position has been retained and enhanced with a slightly raised eye point for improved visibility, while increased shoulder room contributes to a better feeling of space. As you’d expect from Mazda, the driver-oriented environment reflects Mazda’s commitment to driver comfort and connection. The strong horizontal door-to-door dashboard layout enhances the sense of width, while the range of steering wheel adjustment, plus the alignment of driver, pedals and wheel delivers a naturally connected driver position. Compared to the outgoing car, longer and better aligned armrests and refined front seats create a more stable and relaxed posture.
When it comes to materials and design across the cabin, the attention to detail found in the all-new Mazda CX-5 reflects Mazda’s ‘Crafted with Japanese Soul’ ethos by creating an interior that balances the requirements of quality and practicality to ensure it’s perfectly suited to everyday life. Materials and finishes have been crafted to offer both robust quality and a refined atmosphere. As an example of Mazda’s attention to the detail of real-world use – high contact seat areas are finished in black to avoid staining from denim.
There’s a range of interiors offered depending on the grade: the Prime-Line model features premium black cloth seat trim, while Centre-Line and Exclusive-Line cars have black artificial leather and suede-effect seat trim. The Exclusive-Line can also be chosen with the option of two-tone black and white artificial leather and suede-effect. Range-topping Homura cars come with black leather with the option of Sport Tan leather seats with tan centre console and door trim.
New ambient lighting, exclusive to Homura adds to the feeling of comfort with a choice of seven colours that create a high-class atmosphere without distracting the driver at night, while the panoramic roof that is standard on Exclusive-Line and Homura makes the CX-5 feel even more spacious and open. However, regardless of which model chosen, the all-new Mazda CX-5’s interior perfectly balances quality, space and practicality.
With a four-model line-up the all-new Mazda CX-5’s clear grade structure delivers generous standard equipment across the board and plenty of customer choice with exceptional value at each grade point. Prime-Line is offered with a generous interior specification that includes, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.9-inch centre touch screen with Google built-in, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus an eight-speaker sound system. It features durable black cloth upholstery and a leather wrapped steering wheel.
Step up to Centre-Line and this mid-level model adds artificial black leather and fabric seat upholstery, electric driver’s seat adjustment, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, Qi wireless phone charger, a head-up display, frameless interior mirror, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a power tailgate. Designed for customers seeking enhanced comfort, convenience and design appeal, Exclusive-Line models retain the Centre-Line’s black artificial leather and suede-like interior but there’s also the option of a black and white two-tone upholstery combination. Regardless of the choice, Exclusive-Line adds electric passenger seat adjustment, heated rear seats, 12-speaker Bose audio, rear USB-C inputs and a 360-degree view parking camera.
The Homura model’s cabin features either black or tan genuine leather, paired with contrasting stitching, while this range-topping specification also adds ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, a larger 15.6-inch centre touch display and steering wheel shift paddles. Across all grades, the all-new Mazda CX-5 provides a thoughtful combination of design, materials and technology to accommodate customer needs with seat colours and finishes carefully chosen to complement the cabin design and reinforce the character of each grade.
