Interior

With a focus on high visual and tactile quality, the cabin of the Mazda2 Hybrid has been designed to create an intelligently configured cockpit layout for the driver, with all major controls and instrumentation laid out with ergonomic precision around the focal point of the steering wheel. At the same time, the strong two-tired horizontal elements of the dashboard design emphasise the overall sense of space the cabin offers.

Instrument clarity and all-round visibility are both key aims of a cabin design that features a low instrument panel top surface and A pillars mounted as far back as possible to deliver excellent visibility. The driving position features a low hip point to ensure adequate headroom for the tallest of drivers, while for maximum flexibility the sporty steering wheel has a wide range of reach adjustment.

The latest version of the Mazda2 Hybrid saw the multi-media screens increased in size on all models – Centre-Line and Exclusive-Line models have a 9-inch colour central screen and analogue speedo and hybrid indicator. The Homura has 7-inch digital customisable speedo and hybrid indicator with the same 9-inch central display. In the range-topping Homura Plus, upgrades include a 12.3-inch digital customisable speedo and hybrid indicator and a 10.5-inch colour central display. Alongside these larger displays, the Homura Plus also features navigation, voice recognition and windscreen projecting head-up display. A panoramic glass roof is also exclusive to the Homura Plus and brings a lot of natural light into the cabin.

Across all models, the steering wheel mounted switchgear offers fast and intuitive control of numerous screen displays and multimedia options. Equipment levels in the Mazda2 Hybrid are beyond what was previous expected in the small car segment – all models feature leather wrapped steering wheel, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, integrated Bluetooth, climate-controlled air conditioning and remote central locking, which is upgraded to keyless entry from Exclusive-Line onwards. Homura models deliver an even more extensive interior equipment tally with synthetic leather trim, black roof lining, QI wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting and privacy glass. The range-topping Homura Plus adds a panoramic glass roof, navigation and a head up display.

A practical small car, the Mazda2 Hybrid has a 60:40 split rear seat for maximum flexibility. Seats in place boot capacity is 286 litres and with the seats folded flat maximum capacity is 935 litres. In addition to its functionality, the Mazda2 Hybrid is a small car that offers refinement levels notably more akin to larger cars offering occupants a quiet and relaxing cabin environment. This has been achieved with a focus on the soundproofing of the dashboard and floor panels, plus the extensive use of bodyshell sealing.
