The Mazda6e features six interior modes to adapt vehicle status to common scenarios. Leaving Mode, maintains a constant cabin temperature and displays a message that the driver will return soon. Rest Mode adjusts seating position and interior illumination, while Relax Mode builds on this and allows for relaxing sounds and you can even set an alarm to be woken. These modes are perfect for relaxing during public charging. There’s also Car Wash Mode, while Private Call Mode hides call information and transmits sound only through the speakers in the driver’s headrest. Fresh Air Mode opens the window and activates the automatic Air Purification Mode.

In the centre of the dashboard, the 14.6-inch central touchscreen provides a refined interface for communication, entertainment and vehicle settings. With a layout and functionality inspired by smartphones, users can personalise their experience setting widgets and shortcut keys for quick access to frequently used features. Additionally, the driver can control selected HMI functions with two customisable shortcut buttons on the steering wheel.

Voice recognition and gesture control are extra ways to communicate with the Mazda6e in addition to the control functionality of the central touchscreen. Following the initial activation command ‘Hey Mazda’ occupants can control various functions like air conditioning, windows, ambient lighting, seat adjustment and audio system. You can even adjust things like the head-up display or the rear spoiler. Gesture control can be used for audio system, make a phone call or even take a picture with the car’s selfie camera.

The Mazda6e interior is designed with Omotenashi – the Japanese spirit of hospitality and thoughtful anticipation. Offering a warm welcome inspired by Omotenashi, as the Mazda6e detects the key: side mirrors unfold, the door handle presents itself, the doors unlock automatically and a distinctive light signature at the front and rear greets the driver. Depending on settings, the rear spoiler even subtly deploys. As the door opens, the driver seat moves back 10cm for easy entry, returning to its pre-set position once inside. The sequence plays in reverse when leaving the car – a gesture that reflects the vehicle’s care for its occupants.

A standard panoramic sunroof contributes to the Mazda6e’s airy interior and sense of space. Featuring tinted glass and heat insulation as standard, the sunroof is paired with an electric sunshade in the Takumi Plus grade. The sophisticated ambient lighting system uses only indirect light sources to deliver a relaxed cabin atmosphere and with 64 colour options, it’s highly customisable. The mono-form front seats, with integrated headrests, offer a clean, elegant look. They unite skillfully stitched materials with subtle satin chrome accents for a finely crafted yet modern look and feel. The interior is available in three colour variations: the standard Takumi package has a choice of Stone or Black Maztex^ artificial leather, while the Takumi Plus option comes with elegant Tan Nappa leather, artificial suede and cloth woven fabric.

With its generous size, the Mazda6e cabin is spacious and comfort focused: front and rear head room measure 988 mm and 963 mm, respectively, while shoulder room comes in at 1,478 mm (front) and 1,416 mm (rear). Front and rear hip room measure 1,394 mm and 1,392 mm, while leg room is a respectable 1,074 mm in the front and 921 mm in the rear. The 337-litre boot adds to practicality, as does the 72-litre front boot space that’s ideal for storing charge cables. Load to the roofline and boot space increases to 466 litres and with the seats folded there’s a huge 1,074 litres of carrying capacity.
