Combining comfort and craftmanship with connectivity and intuitive technology that’s focused on the user experience – the Mazda6e matches design with a Human Machine Interface (HMI) set up that creates a seamless bond between driver and machine, placing safety and convenience at the forefront.

The smart cockpit of the Mazda6e is designed according to Mazda’s Human Centric philosophy. Essential information is positioned in the driver’s field of vision to reduce distraction and improve reaction time. A large head-up display projects key driving information, such as speed, navigation prompts and safety alerts onto the windscreen to keep the driver’s full attention onto the road. Drivers can customise the amount of information displayed via three modes: Classic, Minimal or Custom, while in winter the additional Snow Mode changes items normally displayed in white to blue to enhance readability against bright winter backdrops.

In addition to the head-up display, the Mazda6e also has a 10.2-inch digital dial set in the traditional position behind the steering wheel – it repeats the active driving information shown in the head-up display for perfect driver preference and interaction. It adds to this information by also displaying vehicle status data such as tyre-pressure, mileage, battery state of charge, outside temperature and trip computer info. The combination of the head-up display and the digital instrument dial cluster follow Mazda’s focus on integrating all the key information needed by the driver intuitively and clearly into the driving environment.

Then at the centre of the dashboard the 14.6-inch touchscreen provides an instinctual and refined control for both driver and passenger. The interface for communication, entertainment functions and vehicle settings, it has a layout and functionality inspired by smartphones. Just as with the latest smartphone technology we are all accustomed to, users can personalise their experience setting widgets and shortcuts for quick access to frequently used features. The quick touch icons along the bottom of the screen can be set and changed when required then remain in that position for muscle memory use without taking your eyes off the road.

Likewise, the driver can control selected functions with two customisable shortcut buttons on the steering wheel – for example they can be set to toggle through one touch operation of key items like wipers and lights. Fully adjustable to driver preference the Mazda6e’s HMI, like the driving position, is designed to allow the driver to feel connected and at one with the car each time you get behind the wheel.

Voice recognition and gesture control are extra ways to communicate with the Mazda6e in addition to the control functionality of the central touchscreen. Following the initial activation command ‘Hey Mazda’ occupants can control various functions like air conditioning, windows, ambient lighting, seat adjustment and audio system. You can even adjust things like the head-up display or the rear spoiler. Gesture control can be used for audio system, make a phone call or even take a picture with the car’s selfie camera.

The touchscreen functionality and ultra clear mapping on the large screen mean navigation is easy to use whether using the cars inbuilt navigation or third-party mapping apps via the smartphone connectivity, while the ‘Hey Mazda’ voice recognition system is also integrated with the navigation.

A first for Mazda, the Mazda6e also features six interior modes to adapt vehicle status to common scenarios. Leaving Mode, maintains a constant cabin temperature and displays a message that the driver will return soon. Rest Mode adjusts seating position and interior illumination, while Relax Mode builds on this and allows for relaxing sounds and you can even set an alarm to be woken. These modes are perfect for relaxing while public charging. There’s also Car Wash Mode, while Private Call Mode hides call information and transmits sound only through the speakers in the driver’s headrest. Fresh Air Mode opens the window and activates the automatic Air Purification Mode.

In the back of the car, a rear touchscreen allows passengers to adjust climate settings, and on Takumi Plus models, operate the electric sunshade. For a chauffeur driven like experience the front passenger seat can be slid forward by rear passengers and this function can be disabled if children are seated in the rear. The cabin features two USB-C connections – one in the back, one in the front, plus a front USB-A connection.

When it comes to an immersive sound experience, the Mazda6e is equipped with a Sony audio system featuring 14 high performance speakers, including subwoofers. The Sony Clear Phase sound system delivers a rich and balanced sound to all passengers. An exterior speaker located behind the front bumper even allows you to play music outside the car when stationary at picnics or outside events.

With a dedicated Mazda6e App, users can manage charging schedules, pre-condition the cabin, check vehicle status and more – all remotely. This Mazda6e App brings a remote element to the car’s HMI interfaces, with Bluetooth key sharing another key feature that allows the owner to share access to the car with up to three users permanently or for predefined periods. The primary user/owner can grant full or limited access to the car, all the while retaining compete oversight via the app.

All of which means whether in the driver’s seat, a passenger seat or even remotely, the Mazda6e’s technology suite and HMI/connectivity is designed to be easy to use, intuitive and aimed at always creating a connection with the car.
